Taxinge Slott

Taxinge Castle is located in Mälardalen just 60 km from Stockholm, and here the focus is not only on food but on local cuisine. The castle café describes itself as the home of Northern Europe's largest cake buffet with more than 50 types of locally baked cakes and pastries, making it hard to resist the phrase 'Yes, maybe just one more piece then.' The castle is also the place where August Strindberg spent his childhood summers and where Ingmar Bergman's 'Cries and Whispers' was filmed. Enjoy wandering in the castle grounds, where you might encounter animals if you're lucky, or take a walk in the surrounding forest where wild berries grow and are ripe for picking. The castle also has an excellent shop selling everything from kitchen products to design items. Be sure to check out the adjacent art gallery and silversmith with studio and shop. You can get here by car (60 km) or take a steamboat via Mariefred.
